Autodesk MGS Usability Study

The Autodesk Marketing Guidelines Site (MGS) is an internal site used by employees and vendors to learn about the brand and to access resources.

Challenge:
Define issues that users face while accessing the MGS. Uncover problems that users may encounter while completing everyday tasks.

Solution:
In-person usability testing, results compilation, and final suggestions for website updates.

My Role
Researcher, facilitator, project manager.

Test planning:

  • Identified main goals for a site visitor and created 7 tasks for the purpose of testing. Created task flows for ideal path a user would take to get to the requested information.
  • Wrote script for testing. Set up tasks in Morae.
  • Identified testers, scheduled individual testing sessions, obtained signed non-disclosure agreements.

Usability Testing:

  • Met with 8 users in person in Autodesk's Small User Research Lab.
  • Recorded and walked-through tasks, encouraging testers to think out loud. Took notes, recorded screen and user.

Final Reports:

  • Compiled results from data.
  • Presented findings in PowerPoint and final InDesign document. Provided qualitative data and user quotes to back up suggestions on necessary changes to MGS.
  • Created timeline for completion of suggestion, including urgency rankings.
